The initiative was brought forward by Minister, Nelson Silas of Pine Top Church after seeing most of the people being illiterate.

“More than 75% of the people living in the area are illiterates and it is a challenge we decided to take,” said Min. Nelson Silas. He further added that these people live by panning for gold, they have money and there is little or no need of education. The literacy school is now the second of its kind in Bulolo District. The newly opened building also has a pulpit in it, making it a church building as well.
A new water supply was also built for the new school. “We raised most of the funds for both projects, and with assistance from ADRA, we now have a water supply as a complement to our new Literacy school Building,” said Harrison Nesson, local builder. It now stands as a compliment to the new Literacy School Building and a relief for the surrounding locals.
Delegates who attended the opening ceremony were commended by the locals for bring change into their area. Delegates includes departmental directors from Morobe Mission, representatives from Bulolo District Administrators office and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) PNG.
A new classroom is currently undergoing construction at Wapi village a few kilometres away from Mausbox, with locals volunteering to take up trainings to help support the initiative.
